Olmos, a redevelopment project to extend a single-family house in Boadilla del Monte (Madrid).

The client requested an extension to her house to make a fully equipped master bedroom with a 50 sqm dressing room and twin bathroom.

The pre-existing site was a typical Spanish two floor house from the 70s, with a brick exterior, and tile roofs, comprised of intersecting rectangular volumes, built over different levels adapting themselves to the sloping plot. The garage was a single floor volume with a flat roof, placed adjacent to the house.

The extension was constructed above the garage to take advantage of the views to the garden and to Boadilla’s hill. A concrete cuboid facing the garden, following the existing properties directional plan was proposed with the idea not to compete with the existing house but instead create a contrasting volume that would sit harmoniously with the existing structure.

The connection between the old building and its new extension is through a small glass corridor placed between two patios which maintain the interior-exterior connection and establish a gap between the new and existing spaces.

The new building has a 9 m cantilever, creating a new twin parking space underneath and allowing for a new entrance in the centre of the house to integrate both volumes.
